Little Boxes of Conformity

We are careful about what we say, where we go, and who we associate with, but we are all easily cataloged. Those who strike out against the norm are also neatly placed in a box entitled non-conformist.  When a person attempts to defy the description of a Dem or Pub, they are easily placed in the box called extremist.  If one studies each box of our diverse society, the politician, types-of-men-suitthe immigrant, the church attendant, the atheist and the ever popular radical, try as we might, we get locked into one of the designated boxes because of our appearance, nationality, actions and associations. Our freedom of speech, religion, and political views ties us to a clique, a collection of others who agree with our desire to save the planet, create peace, and be validated by our choices. Listening to conversations, the news, or the online chatter of one ticky tacky box of people against the other does not sanction the perceptions of one side or the other.  Every heart beats because of the same God who breathed life into us ALL.  We were all uniquely created with various talents for the purpose of serving one another and our Creator.  God waits to use and bless ALL who look to Him for their true identity, which is outside any box man creates.  Follow the One who created your heart. Don’t listen to anyone who outlines how you can’t, because with God, all things are 3e06f8e658eddcec7ceb6b578f9f2813possible.  “Little Boxes” is a song written in 1962 by the folk singer Malvina Reynolds about how society longs to fit in, to conform, to be liked, and to be accepted, loved as they are and to defy being placed in a ticky tacky box that mirrors the values of man, not God. These lyrics paint a truth that challenges all of society. “Little boxes on the hillside, little boxes made of ticky tacky, little boxes all the same.  There is a pink one and a green one, and a blue one, and a yellow one, and they’re all made of ticky tacky and they all look just the same.  And the people in the houses, all went to university where they were put in boxes, and they all came out all the same. And there were doctors, lawyers and business executives, all made of ticky tacky and they all look just the same.   They all play golf, drink beer and all have pretty children who all go to school, summer camp, then to university, and they all look just the same.” The truth is God pursues a continuing love relationship with you that is real and personal. He invites you to become involved with Him in His work. God speaks by the Holy Spirit through the Bible, prayer, circumstance, and the church to reveal Himself, His purposes, and His ways. God takes the initiative to bring all people into a relationship with the only One who can love you personally, outside the box of humanity.  “Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves Me. He who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I too will love him and show Myself to him.” “No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him. Everyone who listens to the Father and learns from Him comes to Me. This is why I told you that no one came come to Me unless the Father has enabled him.” Do not worry saying. ‘what shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink, or wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But first seek His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
