Help in the Garden

Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction.” Matt 7:13

What a treat it is to get my fingers in the dirt! Obedient to a swirling idea for a winsome table center piece, I followed His lead to a particular garden shop.  Santiago and his mom had been to mi casa to plant a roof top succulent garden in May of 2020.  I entered the shop and used my best Spanglish to explain my desire to build a miniature ‘Resurrection Garden’. My joy was infectious and both mother and son began seeking the right pot!  Santiago arranged a spot for me as he drilled holes in the bottom of a huge round pot and asked “what else do you need?” Their enthusiastic welcome for me to stay at the garden center and use whatever they had to offer was invigorating.  Momma brought me a few low growing succulents as her son hand twisted 3 wooden crosses.

Santiago brought me some great ranch soil and the jar of pebbles I requested. Their ripe open hearts and their itching ears to hear what the Spirit had to say about the empty tomb was just a wide open invitation to share my personal testimony.  Santiago and his momma were both deeply moved to tears as I was led to share about my prodigal son – and that Jason is now walking with Jesus. We all stood quietly admiring the created “Resurrection Garden”. I placed my hand on Santiago’s shoulder and asked if I could pray with him. His mother was thrilled as we all bowed our heads. The Holy Spirit took a hold of my tongue and all our hearts were rejoicing for what had just happened. As a resurrected from the dead sister in Christ, there are no words to describe the joy that was in the atmosphere in the garden today!  I had holy hands helping me all the way. Santiago’s mother gratefully shared that her son had also made some bad choices and that the testimony of Jason was a God sent word for her son/hijo. Glowing with a big smile, Santiago gave me his heartfelt thanks and I gave him a copy of ‘Biblia Compacta’. A 100 page summary of the New Testament, in Spanish which is just an appetizer for all that the Lord has in store for him.  If you have an IDEA bring it to Santiago and get help making it come to life! His shop is next to the train station in Chapala, Jalisco, Mexico

Santiago’s dear madre Hilda (in English) took me over to view the new pond that Santiago created and I was overcome with a deep sense that God was going to use Santiago as His witness with a flock of young children around the pond. I shared the vision of him playing the piano and sharing his testimony and Santiago quickly replied “yes, I will!” We are to work out our salvation, and I must say time in the garden with Santiago did not seem like work at all! On Tuesday April 6, 2021 Barb was led to visit Santiago and ask about meeting at the pond each Thursday at 9:00 AM for a Bible reading time. Santiago grinned really wide and said “I am very emotional about my relationship with Jesus and how He brought you into my life. Yes, Jueves at 9 AM and my momma can help translate!” On the deck right where we were talking, I placed my hand on Santiago and he willing prayed to God to be forgiven as he accepted Jesus into his heart and asked for increased understanding of God’s will and word. This post will be shared with Santiago to honor his effort in our joint creation of the Resurrection Garden. “Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches.” Matthew 13:32 Santiago and his beaming madre will attend Abundant Life Church on Sunday April 11, 2021 and our first Bilingual Bible Study will begin on Jueves/Thurs April 15, 2021 at the pond! I trust the Holy Spirit to grow the faith in the heart of Santiago and his momma. “I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow.” 1 Corin 3:6

April 15, 2021 UPDATE: Santiago was at church Sunday after accepting Jesus on April 6. I am so thrilled to be connected to Christians who pray! Today was just so miraculously AWESOME! Can you prayer warriors hear me squeal with delight in all of what the Lord is doing! I just got home from our first bilingual Bible reading group. Hosted by Santiago at his pond/garden shop! Pictures attached are from this morning. Santiago has an honest thirst for Truth! I brought my boom box, we played Aleluyah for worship. There is no language barrier in this song! We prayed and sat down to read selected holy Scriptures. Santi read in Spanish, then my husband and I read same verse in English. As led by the Spirit, a broad emphasis placed on chosen, adopted, sealed as a child of God. Santiago recited all scriptures declaring God’s love for himself. All scriptures used were our Father’s Words of WHO WE ARE IN CHRIST. Santiago is brand new to the Word of God and so he is reading Biblia Compacta, the Spanish 85 page summary of the NT first. In a few weeks I will give him a Spanish Bible. “I do not have the words to express my appreciation for you coming here and reading with me.” God has blessed me with a new Hijo in Christo! Each week he plans to provide free coffee, water, OJ as he prays more folks will join us. Thurs 9 AM before it is hot at the pond.

DIRECTIONS: Drive towards Chapala Christiana Park, the yellow Train station is towards Mezcala. El Gallo Vivero is right next door to the train station! Thursday/Jueves at 9:00 AM, bring your Bible, or just a note pad and bring your questions. We will allow the Holy Spirit to lead this group. Bring your children as there are wonderful places to explore along with bunny rabbits and beautiful parrots.

LYRICS to SHOUT! When I think about the Lord, how He saved me, how He raised me, How He filled with me with the Holy Ghost, how He healed me to the uttermost, how He picked me up and turned me around, how He placed my feet on solid ground—it makes me want to Shout Hallelujah, thank You Jesus, Lord You are worthy of all of the glory, and all of the honor and praise!

“For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.” 2 Tim 1:7  Our Father loves us so much He sent His son, and gave us His word so we know how to think! “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” Phil 4:4 and His peace, joy and love will radiate from within you!

AMÉN Spanish Way Maker song. https://youtu.be/9TIZMohIYqQ

“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.” Heb 11:6 NIV

’Yo estoy a tu puerta, y llamo; si oyes mi voz y me abres, entraré en tu casa y cenaré contigo. ’Los que triunfen sobre las dificultades y mantengan su confianza en mí reinarán conmigo, así como yo he triunfado y ahora reino con mi Padre.”

Domingo Abril 11, 2021 Santiago conoció al pastor Gary, Matthew, Neto, Patricia, Pilar, Carol, Kim, Rosa y Francisco en la iglesia hoy. “Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love Him.” James 1:12 NIV

Why Do We Sing? Because Jesus first loved us, He left His throne in heaven, came down to shed His blood as the sacrificial Lamb, and in three days rise again as the Lion, the King of kings. Jesus defeated Satan and his plan for us to burn in hell for eternity. Jesus is the only Way to eternity in heaven. Jesus described the Devil as “the father of lies” (John 8:44 NLT) and God hates pride and liars. Jesus said come to Me, all who are burdened with guilt and shame, and I will wash away your sin, forgive you. Jesus welcomes all into the family of God.

Worship in Spanish and sing alleluia – in every language and tongue with a delightful piano.

  2. “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated Me first.” John 15:18 and in context John 15:1-4 ““I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch in Me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in Me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in Me.

  3. I woke up today with the lyrics of ‘WayMaker’ whirling in my head. “even though I cannot see Him, He is working” Walking in the Spirit, I was led to go visit Santiago who chose Jesus on April 6, 2021. Jesus was tempted immediately following His baptism, and so was Santiago. A picture of eternity in hell contrasted by forever in heaven were painted for him at the pond today. Santiago has the gift of music and God’s will is that he use his hands to play music that draws others to Christ. The Holy Spirit will give Santiago understanding and the blessed assurance of his destiny with many friends in heaven. Please pray for protection for Santiago and salvation for his father Francisco who has been attending AA for one year. On April 9th Barb obediently visited Santiago. He confessed a battle in his head. He took me to his casa and played the piano. We talked about removing all things from his room that do not reflect or honor God. Santiago is excited to attend church and meet new friends that love Jesus. Neto the piano player and Matthew his neighbor. “I do not have many friends, you are my friend Barbara, and God sent you to me.”

It has been approximately 36 years since Christ entered my heart. The Holy Spirit continues to change me, lead me, and give me deeper understanding of all that Jesus did for me on the cross. His blood sanctifies and justifies, His mercy is new every day.
