Kathryn

To all who mother the spirit of others by their kind words and affectionate acts, may you be inspired by another tremendous woman of faith. Kathryn Kuhlman was a redheaded woman who never gave birth to a child, but she mothered thousands. She spent most of her time immersed in the Holy Spirit. She was married to Burroughs Waltrip for a short time and then divorced.  Kathryn shares her gospel, the Truth as she came to know Him. The story of Jesus is perceived to be a tale about a historical or mythical person. Only those who have experienced the life altering and heart changing Presence of the Holy Spirit will know the Truth. When the Holy Spirit illuminates the heart, eyes are opened as ears are tuned into hear what the Spirit of God is saying.  Kathryn walked in the glory of our Lord even as she was persecuted by the church for getting a divorce. No person or human judge can proclaim a person innocent and washed of all sin, only Jesus can do that. Yeah, a day is coming when we will all stand before the throne of God and we hope to receive a white stone which signifies a final acquittal, the judicial deliverance from any and all criminal charges with a verdict of NOT GUILTY! “Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who is victorious, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give that person a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to the one who receives it.” Revelation 2:17 Kathryn took a tight hold of who she was “in Christ’, and not allow the words of people to extinguish her amazing walk on earth.  Kathryn is dramatic, and some criticize her for being theatrical, but her sister says, ‘Oh, that is just Kathryn’  She repeatedly and adamantly said that she was not a faith healer! “I have never healed anybody! The Holy Spirit is the Healer!”  After studying the Bible on her own for two years, she was ordained by the Evangelical Church Alliance, a fundamentalist group. Miss Kuhlman preferred to consider herself a nondenominational person who belonged to God, functioning as a universal Christian, united with all who believe in Jesus. In this 1972 clip, Kathryn speaks of knowing the Holy Spirit as her Teacher. Link: Kathryn Speaks

God’s Word  says that we all have been given different gifts, so regardless of your education, family heritage or background, be inspired by this uneducated woman and how God used her. (Romans  12:6) Kathryn never finished school and as a teen she worked as a nanny for her brother-in-law. who was a preacher. She was so impacted by how the Holy Spirit operated that she began her own ministry. Kathryn chose to LIVE in the Spirit, walk in the Spirit, and to cooperate with the Holy Spirit.  “The only thing anyone can teach another is what they have personally been taught by the Holy Spirit, or experienced through Him.” God created us to be a student of His will, His Way, and His Word so our Father sent the Holy Spirit to be our Counselor, Teacher, Guide, Comforter. We are His beloved children and like no other Father, He provides us with the best teacher of all.  Just like you and me, the first disciples of Christ were instruments for God to perform His miracles. After we are anointed by the Holy Spirit we become carriers, equipped from on High to operate in the miraculous.  5ce79de4fdc575912ee77400.w800Jesus tells us “you will do far greater works than these”.  Along with lepers being healed, the blind seeing, the lame walking, know that we have been gifted with faith, and we exercise our faith as we shine His Light into the world with a simple kind smile. God calls the hurting world to Himself through us. As His disciples, He knew we would get busy and forget all that He said. That is why Jesus said it was BETTER that He return to the Father so that the Holy Spirit could remind us of all He said. “The anointing remains in us.” John 1:27. She recalls her own initial contact with the Holy Spirit in a Methodist Church in Missouri in a town of 1,200 people. Kathryn’s mother was Methodist and her papa was a Baptist. She attended both churches growing up.  One Sunday morning during the last song from a hymnal, at the age of 14, the Holy Spirit came upon her. She proclaims she does not recall a word the preacher said, and from that day forward the Holy Spirit became her Teacher. Without asking for His anointing, Kathryn began to shake and tremble so much..that she reclined in the pew.  Something inside shined a light on the truth that she was a sinner and she was compelled to go forward and sit in the front pew and weep.  In that moment Kathryn was converted and changed forever by His Presence. This was the moment Kathryn believes she was born again. She tells us that when the Power of the Holy Spirit comes upon a person, they will remember that moment forever with or without speaking in tongues. We are called to BELIEVE and ACCEPT the miracle of our conversion. Kathryn testifies that she passed from a walking dead person to “life in Christ”. It was her first contact with the Holy Ghost. “What I was given was the experience to share, which was my Gospel.”

The story of Mary of Bethany is highlighted in scripture for eternity for her pure, unselfish love for Jesus.  John 11 “Now a man named Lazarus was sick. He was from Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha. (This Mary, whose brother Lazarus now lay sick, was the same one who poured perfume on the Lord and wiped his feet with her hair.) Luke 7:38  Mary humbled herself at the feet of Jesus  “at His feet weeping, she began to wet His feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them.” You see Jesus had raised not only her brother from the dead, but Mary was given a new life “in Him”. “A woman in that town who lived a sinful life learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee’s house, so she came there with an alabaster jar of perfume.” Luke 7:37 – After her conversion, Kathryn rented the 2nd floor of a building and began sharing the message of salvation. After Kathryn’s first meeting one young woman was  ‘stilled’ at the altar. A young lady who had never heard anyone speak in an unknown tongue  began singing in a perfect pitch of ‘C’. Her mom reported “that is not my daughter, she cannot even carry a tune.”  The glory of the Lord was on her face.  Kathryn witnessed something new. She learned that night to recognize the Holy Spirit working in full power.  She saw the “Baptism of the Holy Spirit”.  When He comes upon us, we shall remember our personal “experience”. God is absolute perfection and when the 3rd Person of the trinity comes upon you, He makes Himself known to you. When He speaks it will be absolute perfection. Speaking in unknown tongues is not how He always communicates His Presence.  Much that is attributed to the Holy Spirit is NOT the Holy Spirit.  The church cannot teach people how to speak in a heavenly language. John the Baptist said there is One greater than I, and Jesus will baptize you in the Holy Spirit. All blessings, healings and anointing comes through Jesus. He is the Giver of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. Kathryn shared “people get their minds so focused on the mechanics that they lose sight of the Truth, Jesus is the only One who gives all blessings, and all the gifts of the promised, and delivered Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit cannot be fooled or manipulated. He knows our hearts, our motives and IF we truly desire to be changed. IF you seek Jesus Christ with all your heart, raise both hands and ask Him to anoint you with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is NOT a magic genie who comes to give us what our selfish nature seeks. kathryn-kuhlman-marguerite-anderson-1

The Holy Spirit comes into open hearts, He invades our spirit with His, He takes up residence in those who want to serve God. As His chosen servants we submit our bodies, mind and souls to gladly serve the One who loves us more than any man can. The great purpose of God and His plan of salvation includes a personal loving, honest, ongoing relation or connection with our Creator through the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit responds to our surrender and willingness to be changed.  Our father drew us near and Jesus calls us to surrender our ways to His. In Portland, Oregon Kathryn met a young Catholic girl who knew nothing about the Holy Spirit or the mechanics. This nun walked on stage and got a healing and whispered to Kathryn “I’m so hungry for more of the Holy Spirit.” Kathryn said I did NOT touch her, and in the moment that she confessed her hunger for more, she was slain by the Holy Spirit. Before she lay on the ground she began speaking in a heavenly language.  5,000 people in that civic auditorium began to sob as the Holy Spirit went about doing His business.  “We felt like taking our shoes off as we recognized we were standing in the perfect Presence of the Holy Ghost.” When a person is led, a person follows. Kathryn said “The sacrifices I have made are nothing in comparison to all that the Holy Spirit has shown me. I am NOT a faith healer, the Holy Spirit is the One who heals. He is the miracle worker, I am simply His servant. As God is my judge, our Father did not give to me anything that He will not give unto you. There was a  huge learning curve and an emotional price to pay. There are no bargains with God, it is all or nothing.  I fear NO MAN, but I do strive to NOT grieve the Holy Spirit” Kathryn confessed that she did not know the entire Bible but she filled up on the Word and then preached. A lot of living including heartbreak, sorrow, sickness, and dark nights occurs before we get to go to glory. The presence of God is NOT merely a theory, it is a fact. His Presence is with you when the sun shines and during the dark nights.  Holy Spirit I pray that You open the eyes of those that fear whatever is to come.  The Holy Spirit never departs and He stays with us in our time of need so call out to Him and ask for strength to endure.  God fulfilled His promise to never leave us by delivering into us the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit testifies to our spirit that Jesus is Lord. Walk boldly and speak with confidence with the authority of the Holy Spirit who is “in thee”. Oh dear Holy Spirit, open our hearts and minds that we may receive all that You have for us.

Kathryn Kuhlman Interviews Corrie Ten Boom in 1972. Cornelia Arnolda Johanna “Corrie” ten Boom was a Dutch watchmaker and later a writer who worked with her father, Casper ten Boom, her sister Betsie ten Boom, and other family members to help many Jews escape the Nazis from the Holocaust during World War II by hiding them in her home. They were caught, and Corrie was arrested and sent to the Ravensbrück concentration camp. Corrie was imprisoned for 11 months in horrific conditions.  Corrie asked Jesus to come into her heart when she was 5 years old. Her dad kept his Bible in the drawer and she remembers that he told her I am a watchmaker by the grace of God.  Corrie grew up in Holland and she says her youth was a happy one with 3 sisters and brothers The Hiding Place, is a biography that recounts the story of her family’s efforts and how she found hope while she was imprisoned at the concentration camp.

Joan Gieson was one of confidant who ministered with Kathryn Kuhlman in the 1960s and 1970s. Joan Gieson book, “Healing in His Presence: The Untold Secrets of Kathryn Kuhlman’s Healing Ministry and Relationship with Holy Spirit” is a fabulous book available on Amazon. This interview is wonderful.

  1. I have to admit, I always wondered what this part of Psalm 23 meant. I thought “He anoints my head with oil” was figurative language for God keeping the Psalmist healthy. I never knew this parallel.

    Anoint my head with oil

“Sheep can get their head caught in briers and die trying to get untangled. There are horrid little flies that like to torment sheep by laying eggs in their nostrils which turn into worms and drive the sheep to beat their head against a rock, sometimes to death. Their ears and eyes are also susceptible to tormenting insects. So the shepherd anoints their whole head with oil. Then there is peace. That oil forms a barrier of protection against the evil that tries to destroy the sheep. Do you have times of mental torment? Do the worrisome thoughts invade your mind over and over? Do you beat your head against a wall trying to stop them? Have you ever asked God to anoint your head with oil? He has an endless supply! His oil protects and makes it possible for you to fix your heart, mind, and eyes on Him today and always! There is peace in the valley! May our good good Father anoint your head with oil today so that your cup overflows with blessings! God is good and He is faithful!!”
