A summer eve pastime has a joy within it that perplexes science. We marvel justifiably over the complex design of a tiny firefly. These itty bitty insects, also known as lightning bugs, light up the night with a magical glow. What actually makes them flash has dazzled scientists. This summer bug 🐛 has fascinated us all, and the Creator of all things delights in our childlike wonder. Consider a quiet Lakeside village that wraps around and up a hill. At night the lightning bugs simply do what they were designed to do. They pierce the darkness with the Light of the world.

Yes, a city on a hill astounds all who watch the darkness twinkle with HOPE! These lightning bugs, are in the Lampyridae family of creatures that came into existence with a single Word spoken by God. The name comes from the Greek “lampein,” which means to shine. All glory to God! The light that fireflies produce is extremely efficient. In fact, it’s the most efficient light in the world!

The light that fireflies produce may be green, yellow or orange in color. These light bearing creatures put their efficient light to good use in flashy displays. We too were designed to glow with the light of hope. Some fireflies synchronize their flashes. In the U.S. this phenomenon occurs during the first few weeks of June in the Great Smokey Mountains in Tennessee.

Male fireflies fly through the air in search of a female by emitting a specific flashing pattern. Some only flash once, while others do so up to 9 times. On the ground, the females sit and wait until they see an impressive light display. They show their interest by responding with a single flash. We too can flash a single smile that attracts a soul to draw near. Any predators of a firefly are repulsed by a defensive steroid which makes them unappetizing to potential hunters. Once predators get a bite, they avoid attacking the lightning bugs in the future. Our Father also gave us the authority to repel the arrows of our enemy the devil. When their habitat is overtaken, fireflies do not relocate. Instead, they just disappear.

We wisely choose to be a light in the darkness. We purposefully do not let any unwholesome talk come out of our mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. We were released from the prison of darkness and in the name of Jesus and as an act of our free will, we delight in the glow from within. In the name of Jesus, with authority, we repel the enemy of our soul and break Satan’s power over us and he flees quickly. We command all tormenting predators assigned to us to leave now. Holy Spirit embolden us to shine our light without fear!

Prayer is an act of worship of God, the Creator. Our words fly up to give thanks for His genius, His perfect design, and His power. We humbly submit to the Sovereign Ruler of all that exists. He gave us eyes to see beauty, ears to hear the majesty of wind, thunder and lightning, and a voice to sing His praise. His plan for every day of our life was written in His Book of Life before we entered this star lit universe. On this side of eternity, there is a war between the Kingdom of Light and darkness. Our Father unvites us to speak to Him 24/7 about anything. The Spirit of God gives us understanding, patience and peace as we wait on His perfect answer. We delight in what He has “already” accomplished and we thrill in what He has “not yet” revealed.

❤️ Isaiah 43:1 “This is what the Lord says He who created you, “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are Mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior…“You are my witnesses,” declares the Lord, “and My servant whom I have chosen, so that you may know and believe Me and understand that I am He. Before Me no god was formed, nor will there be one after Me.” ❤️ Psalm 91:11″For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.” ❤️ Psalm 4:8 “In peace I will lie down and sleep, for You alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.” If you are restless as you wait, fall asleep to this bedtime story.
