Simple Joys

Christ in me His hope for glory

People spend massive amounts of time and money to obtain moments of bliss. After the truth knocks on our hearts for long enough, and after we note that our fleeting memories evaporate quickly, we attend to His knocking and answer.

Certain books spark delightful hope

This day, I chose to stay home and make soup while delighting in Truth’s holy Presence.  His joy in my awareness of Him — washed over me. What He felt for me was absolutely contagious, and it consumed me. It was phantastical! To describe it, I must ascribe it to childhood books that influenced me to keep seeking beyond what my eyes see. The power of the imagination is vast, broader than any pen can truly scratch. I believe that God used the melody of the Strauss masterpiece “Blue Danube” and the whimsy of the “Mother’s Blue Fairy Tale Book” to draw me to seek a relationship with the unseen Spirit. Such a journey is set before all. Through music, books and tragedy, we begin to seek and discover that we were all created for another glory filled kingdom. The way through to eternal joy, is a tiny gate, just waiting for our entry.

The Psalms, His written Word

While reading the words within Phantastes, CS Lewis at the age of 19 got a glimpse of joy. As a kindred spirit, we who endlessly scribble — attempt to capture the fleeting greetings we encounter. Those moments of delight suddenly leap into the grasping soil of our souls. Tis nothing we have time to question, just accept. It is like the beautiful scent of a flower, it is there but can not be touched. Hearing the faint echo of His melodic voice — we can simply dance in unison for moments, then He ushers us back into reality. We are in this world, but not made of the stuff of it. We are here to be a light, that others may progress in their personal journey.

With a candle lit, and my Bible open — a deep, invisible, transcendent visit occured. The Joy of the Lord is a sumptuous meal that our Father gladly provides to those who seek Him. Washing the dishes while aware of He who dwells within, my mind was set on things above. The Holy Spirit within, invites us to take a spin with Him and see things as God does. Great contentment is the gift that we are welcome to open all day long.  Regardless of how we feel, our Father bekons us to keep our thoughts on whatever is lovely, noble and praiseworthy. In our obedience we find the Spirit in our midst.

In the brick casa God provided to satisy a childhood desire, we watched a British movie about the Spirit’s relentless chase of us. As my Father’s child, I choose to live and breathe and have my being in Him. Consider the delicate Lilly, the scent of a Rose, the sparkle of the Stars, the roar of an Ocean, teeming with creatures. Our Creator gave us Ears to hear, Eyes to see, a Hand to be held, and Feet to carry us to the other side of reality. Our Father designed us to shed Tears that quietly slide down our cheeks in pure thanksgiving. With certainty and great hope, I stand in awe of my Father’s love despite my flaws and bloopers. Thank You Father! You are worthy of all the praise I happily share with unknown strangers in this hungry, passing world.

Dec 10, 2023 — soup with Francisco

In 1919 a book loving youth had one wrinkle in his brow ironed out. Just before going to war, it was in God’s plan that curious CS would purchase a particular used book for a tuppence. “Phantastes” was a diversion from his scholarly studies with the ‘KNOCK’, his tutor who helped build a capacity for ideas. A Scottish Christan minister, George MacDonald, wrote a fairy tale in 1858 about a youth without a straight path. Like CS, the wandering 21 year old character had recently lost his mother. This poet’s tale opened the mind of a highly educated man to consider his firm stance on materialism. At this point and for years, CS was a rigid atheist born in Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1898. He reluctantly accepted Jesus as the Son of God and wrote “Mere Christianity” and the kids’ classic the “Chronicles of Narnia”.

Phantastes, and other fairy dust tales, settle in all who are seeking.

The Spirit wrote through JOB “Have you ever visited the storerooms, where I keep the snow and the hail?” Truly the Spirit held the pen of CS and many others authors.

  1. Understand that:
    Afterwards, coffee gets cold…
    Afterwards, priorities change…
    Afterwards, the charm is broken…
    Afterwards, health passes…
    Afterwards, the kids grow up…
    Afterwards parents get old…
    Afterwards, promises are forgotten…Choose NOT
    to leave nothing for later…
    In waiting, we lose
    the offer of God
    moments with Him,
    the best experiences,
    the best eternity…
    The day is today…
    The moment is now

THINK the day started and… it’s already six pm. I barely said Monday and it’s already Friday. January begins a new year.
    … 2023 is almost over.
    … 20, 30 or 40 years gone
    … loved ones have died,
We realize it’s too late to make amends. Let’s try, despite everything, to enjoy our remaining time…
    Look forward to more joy
Put some color in our grey…
    Choosevto laugh more
    Enjoy peace mixed with fun
Let’s try to eliminate the afters…
    I’m doing it after…
    I’ll forgive after…
    I’ll love more after…
The everafter is not ours yet
    Afterwards life ends…
And then it’s often too late….
Say YES to God now! 💕
