A song to sing, a night to give a gift fit for a King. The Bleak Midwinter is a poem penned in 1872. It was set to music as a song with lyrics that accentuate: the winter cold, the coming of Christ, the description of the nativity scene and, finally, the important question, ‘What shall I give Him?’ Afterall, Christmas is a birthday celebration of our living Savior. What gift does He desire to receive? What can we possibly bring to the Christ who has everything?

The inspired Christina Rossetti wrote: “In the Bleak Mid-winter” A frosty wind made moan; earth stood hard as iron, water like a stone; snow had fallen, snow on snow, snow on snow, in the bleak mid-winter long ago. Our God, knew heaven could not hold Him, nor earth sustain Him. Heaven and earth shall flee away — when He comes to reign: In the bleak mid-winter, a stable-place did suffice for the Lord God Almighty — Jesus Christ. Twas enough for Him, whom cherubim worship night and day. A breastful of milk, and a mangerful of hay; Enough for Him, whom Angels fall down before, the ox and ass and camel to adore. Angels and Archangels may have gathered there. Cherubim and seraphim thronged the air; but only His mother, in her maiden bliss — worshipped the Beloved with a tender kiss.

What can I give Him, poor as I am? — If I were a Shepherd I would bring a lamb; If I were a Wise Man I would do my part, — Yet what I can I give Him, — I choose to give Him my whole heart.

Think about all Jesus has done for you. What can we do for Him? Just like every loving parent, He waits patiently for your call.

Happy Birthday Jesus! I give you my whole heart. ❤️
