One word in English can be said and be interpreted as something great, good, mediocre or simply bad. In this post, as in the Bible, the context is very important.

If milk sits too long, it goes bad, and it becomes yogurt. However, yogurt has more goodness to your gut than just milk. If yogurt sits out for long, it ferments and turns to cheese. The end result is that cheese can be more valuable as it lasts longer than yogurt or milk.

Keep tracking with this idea. Sit still, take a rest, and ponder what God might be doing inside an older skin. He is ever at work making all things new! New wine poured into old, dried up skins is known to burst the skins. Is that good or bad? In life, we may discover that what we thought was sour grapes, becomes a fine wine.

Those grapes required a mashing or a stomping to become valuable. Our good Father lets the fires of life burn off the dross so He can refine us. Over time, with a bit of processing, our sour grapes transform into expensive grape juice. Rest in Him while He works within to create a new heart.

“No one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins.” Mark 2:21-22 NIV What does this mean? Born-again-folks simply cannot slip their new life ‘in Christ’ back into their old, cheesy and comfortable lifestyles.

The new life is the Holy Spirit. His holiness will not abide in our natural self-gratifying ways. He will convict us, warn us, and gently nudge us towards Gods way. But if we keep ignoring Him, He will depart and we will get polluted by the world’s influence. God’s salvation plan is an ongoing process of transformation.

A believer who struggles to fit in this world will not hear the still small voice. Over time, a new Christian who chooses to ignore the many warnings, and then discount God’s mercy and grace — WHOA— eventually God turns off His siren. BUT GOD; When we choose to turn our old preferences aside for the sake of His voice, we turn back towards His Way, to live a life worthy of the Holy name of Jesus.

Jesus suffered, and He told us that we too would suffer for a time. We are not bad because we make mistakes. God uses our bad choices to teach us. Mistakes are the experiences that causes Him to convict, nudge, teach and warn us in His Word.

We must be willing to listen to what the Spirit of God is saying. Christopher Columbus made a little navigational error that made him discover America. Alexander Fleming’s big mistake led him to invent Penicillin. So do NOT let your mistakes get you down.
