A Mexican Christmas

In Mexico the month of December shouts JOY! The bells that have inspired poetry, are the church bells that ring at 6 am. Time to rise and shine God’s glory. Families gather at every plaza to fellowship with  music and dancing. All voices are welcomed as the sky lights up with stars that lead kids to look for a place for Jesus to be born.

Tradition of La Posada

Truly, if we are depending on God, then we must cancel our worrisome brain chatter! When our thoughts become His, then our hearts overflow with joy! Yes, Yeshua, You adopted us into the family of God. You gave us Your holy name. You love us enough to give us the Holy Spirit to lead us and discipline our ways. Therefore, without hesitation, we arrest our overthinking mind–and we surrender it to the supremely superior mind of Christ. Without reservation, today we submit our spirit to God! With zero rushing, only trusting, we depend totally on our Father.

Hooray, it is the Christmas season! The decision to enjoy His presence is an act of obedience. Instead of driving, shopping, and wrapping presents, we bask His Presence. We worship the name of Jesus on high. We soar in the spirit while we trim the casa with warm colors and a tree of twinkling treasured memories of all God has provided. With excitement, we invite folks to just “come over” and sip some zesty apple cider, or a medley of exotic teas, or a cup of coffee. With His permission, we delight to heed a needed intermission.

We stop the worry about what to give! Yes Lord, by Your example, we simply give others the gift of our  time. With a joy flowing countenance, we shine for Your glory and usher in Your peace. After soaking in the luxury of Your love, filled up, we share the peace that others hunger for. We are set apart from the world in it’s frazzle, and we choose to be the odd ball. We bedazzle those lost in the frenzy with the calm of Christ. We are the host of the Holy Ghost, so we rest as a merry, gentle spirit. Nothing may dismay, derail, or distract us from the meaning of this glorious time of year. We emerge from that secret hiding place with a full tank to disperse into the universe. Knowing that our Father is delighted and smiling, we choose to enjoy Christmas and make our Father’s heart brim with pleasure. He knows that we trust Him in all things, now and in the future. Welcome traditional ways with joy.

Pozole or menudo are both soups made with hominy (Mexican corn) and require hours and hours of cooking to give it a beautiful depth. Christmas is like no other holiday! People around the globe put up trees and prepare feasts to celebrate the birth of Jesus. In 1914, the hearts of soldiers called a truce during a bloody war as their hearts missed the tradition. At the beach or as you ride with sleigh bells in the snow, every tradition honors the Mercy of God and His eternal plan to reunite with Him. In Mexico, the trees stay decorated until Feb 2nd. Just celebrate all year! Trees of Tradition

Feliz Navidad, His joy abides it does not strive!  Yes, it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, and mom and dad can hardly wait to spend long hours with you! There is a tree in the plaza and a fiesta will serenade us each night. Let the party roll all through 2025 with traditions of joy! A Gift Unwrapped Enjoy the FREE GIFT of FAITH all year!

Decorations are in the plaza, and cohetes are heard throughout Mexico. At midnight people sing Las Mañanitas, the Mexican birthday song. The official start of all the fiestas that celebrate the birth of Jesus begin on December 16th. The Mexican tradition of Las Posadas will be found n the smallest of pueblos. It represents the journey that Mary and Joseph took to try to find a place to stay. Children dressed as Jesus and Mary parade through the village, knocking on doors to find rest. They are denied entrance, and they journey on to a place outdoors where local families and friends take turns serving one another with traditional tamales and sweet breads. The 7 pointed piñata is knocked down by the kids with great joy as candy pours out. Such beauty, such grand Christmas Poetry

Breaking that starred piñata signifies how the blood of Jesus broke the power of sin in your life. On the 25th of December, shops close as family gathers together. On December 26th, all is back open as usual. Things liven up again on January 6th, Kings Day, a day to share Rosca de Reyes, a sweet, round bread with candied fruits on top of it.

Christmas day 2022 and in 2024 we host an outdoor barbecue for neighbors. Nothing fancy, just hotdogs, but the joy that bubbles over is our free gift. Traditions are not costly, they are repeatable and great FUN for all. Kids beat pots with wooden spoons! A Jesus figurine hides inside the bread, and kids giggle as they tear off a piece. Find the Jesus figurine and dance a jig! Feb 2 is the final day of the Christmas holiday. The Mexican foods and the music makes this culture fun. Trust His Purpose

“Behold, days are coming,” declares the Lord GOD, when I will send a famine on the land, not a famine for bread or a thirst for water, but rather for HEARING the words of the LORD.” Amos 8:11 ❤️ Give folks the Truth.

Luke 2:14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom His favor rests.” ❤️ Luke 1:35 The angel said, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” His mercy extends to those who fear Him, from generation to generation.”

All glory to God! 2025 is going to be AWESOME because of His plans for us. HOST parties of celebration of all that God is doing. Keep the traditions, celebrate each hour. Expect God’s love! The Wonder of Snow

Hope Rising
