Identity of Gideon

Walk in the identity of Christ in me, His hope for glory. Hallelujah and Amen!

Gideon’s story illustrates how God speaks to individuals according to their given identity as a child of God. He guides us through our fear to reveal truth gradually as He initiates transformation. When the angel of the Lord appears to Gideon, he did not speak to him based on Gideon’s fear, insecurity, or mental turmoil. Instead, the angel calls him by his identity. “The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.” Those words did not match Gideon’s thoughts or his frail feelings. They entered into his circumstance with hope. Like Gideon, we tend to allow our mind to be tormented by the news and the oppression around us. Our unspoken fears are known by our Father.  We may deceive ourselves by holding onto a false belief that we are too small to make a difference. Our thoughts can not disqualify us because God has already qualified us. Holy Spirit is in our midst speaking to us according to our true identity, not our anxiety. He calls us by our destiny, not our fears. He identifies us by the strength of Spirit He placed in us, not the doubts we feel. Gideon’s story begins with fear, but it does not end there.

Gideon lists the reasons he believes he is unqualified. He questions God’s presence and his own ability. He also questions if God knows the distress of His people. This is a familiar internal dialogue of many people because the mind becomes a courtroom where fears serve as lawyers. We point out our faults with conviction. We argue that we are not capable, but the Holy Spirit objects! His voice silences the old voices of the past. He rewires our mind with the script of truth from God. He teaches us  that God is not held hostage by our thoughts of woe. Even as our mind spirals, His plan remains unshaken. As we doubt our capacity, His calling sharpens our faith in Him. God did not simply speak to Gideon, He walked through the process with Gideon. God asked him to tear down the idols in his father’s house. Why? Our house needs to be filled with praise because God inhabits the praises of His people. Bless the Lord, in my house!

Tear down fear and doubt with praise! Play worship music and all darkness gets replaced by greater faith.  Confusion grows where voices of the past speak louder than the word of God. Gideon tore down the altars in a bold act of obedience. His mental and spiritual realignment grew stronger. It was God’s perfect way to clear the noise around him, so He could clear the noise inside Gideon.  Many people today are living with internal noise, thoughts that replay past mistakes, memories that reopen old wounds, fears that whisper about the future, expectations that feel impossible to meet. The Holy Spirit guides us gently but firmly through the testimony of Gideon to tear down every internal voice that does not come from God. This is not about perfection, it is about alignment. It is about choosing what you permit to speak into your life. It is about silencing the idols of fear, control, performance, and self-reliance, so that the voice of the Holy Spirit has freedom to lead us.

The Holy Spirit does not expose areas to shame us. He exposes the lies to free us. God does not reveal what He will not heal, and our Father does not confront what He will not transform. The deep love of the Father cares too much to leave us the same as He found us. The Holy Spirit goes to the hidden places because we need to be set free completely, not partially. He wants full restoration, not temporary relief.  As we walk with Gideon through his fears, something beautiful happens to us. Our thoughts begin to shift as we relate to his doubts and recognize God’s purpose for us. This shift did not happen overnight for Gideon. It happened step by step, revelation by revelation, encounter by encounter. Our Father is patient with us and He works with our doubts and fears. God reassures us again and again, because God is faithful.  Trust is not the absence of fear, it is the decision to follow God through the fear. Peace is not the absence of noise, it is the presence of God in the noise. Confidence is not the absence of weakness, it is the assurance that God’s strength is made perfect in weakness. As the Holy Spirit continues to speak to us, a new clarity, a new confidence, a new willingness to release what we could never control is our big surrender moment. The Holy Spirit delivers clarity with understanding that the transformation of the mind is not a moment, but a process. The renewal of the mind brings about more faith. Peace is the very real presence of Jesus and He restores the glory of our identity in Him, as we are sealed and secure in Him. “You are Mine, says the Lord.” Submit to He who called you by name. His plans are marvelous and eternal.

“Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.”

God is faithful even when we doubt! Every time we felt like giving up, God was there. Every time our mind overwhelmed us, Jesus whispered peace I give to you. Every time we questioned our capabilities, the Holy Spirit covered us with grace. Every time fear tried to paralyze us, the living Word reminded us that God is with us. In Gideon’s story, there is a moment that reveals the tenderness of God. Before the battle, before the victory, before the miracle, God told Gideon, if you are still afraid, go down to the camp and listen. Gideon went, and what he heard was the enemy already terrified of him. God allowed Gideon to overhear a conversation that strengthened his faith. This is what the Holy Spirit is doing inside us every day as we listen to what the Spirit of God is saying.  He is letting us see glimpses of the truth that fear tried to hide from us. He is letting us hear the whisper of heaven that reminds us of our calling. God lets us sense His presence so deeply that it overrides every lie that tries to control our mind. God does not ask us to be unafraid. He asks us to walk with Him in spite of our fear just like Moses, Joshua, Ruth, Esther, and all the heroes of faith did.
