The Low FODMAP diet has gained significant attention for its effectiveness in managing symptoms associated with various gut issues, particularly irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). If you suddenly must find a bathroom, dig into “FODMAP” ! The acronym stands for fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides, and polyols. These are types of short-chain carbohydrates that can be poorly absorbed in the small intestine, leading to digestive distress.
1. Oligosaccharides are in foods like wheat, rye, onions, garlic, and legumes. They include fructans and galacto-oligosaccharides
2. Disaccharides is lactose, which is found in milk and dairy cheese products.
3. Monosaccharides most common is fructose, which is found in certain fruits, honey, and high-fructose corn syrup.
4. Polyols: Sugar alcohols such as sorbitol and mannitol, found in some fruits and artificial sweeteners. Use Stevia.

My nutrionist took avocado, maple syrup, blueberries, almonds, green beans, and brussel sprouts off my personalized list. Why? Doing FODMAP alone with just the Fodmap YouTube doctors advice, I gained 8 pounds in 3 weeks. To reduce the bloat and gain comfort again, I shall obey.

FODMAP is a temporary diet with three stages. Stage 1) Reduce foods that are hard to digest for 9 weeks. At each meal, eat your veggies, the salad first. Next eat the protein, the eggs, steak, chicken. Last on the plate is the potatoe, the rice, the sourdough slice. Use an APP to count calories and stay below 1500 and 30 carbs. Before each meal drink a warm cup of tea, coffee or water with lemon juice, add a drop of Stevia if you like. The warm liquid helps your digestive system.

Write down how you feel along with what food you ate. To reset the gut, to calm IBS, a gastrointestinal diet called FODMAP is effective. It is a choice to take your diet serious or not. To feel my best, at my age, I decided to follow instructions.

Pick one food item that was restricted like onion, beans, garlic, celery, dark sugar free chocolate, almonds, yams, avocado, and bacon. Measure digestive tolerance in your food journal. Check in with a nutritionist and weigh once a month.

Portion size is important on any healthy regenerating diet. Your body, your gut, your life will improve as we feed it the correct amount of high octane fuel. Enjoy whole foods in variety and pay attention to how your energy improves on less. Be gentle, be compassionate with yourself. Lighten up and make it fun by enlisting an accountability partner.
