The Journal of a Pilgrim

The promises of God that we have experienced and witnessed are best captured in writing. In the midst of ongoing trials, the journal entries of God’s faithfulness is the treasure that keeps our hope aflame! Like Ruth Graham Bell, today many record their thoughts in journals and on blogs. As scribes for generations to come, our written testimony about the faithfulness of God will bless unknown, countless hearts. “They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.” Revelation 12:11 Ruth was raised in China by her missionary parents. Her memoirs are on the YouTube below.

Ruth Graham lived as a woman of faith for 87 years. She lived in glad obedience. Her life was rooted in God’s word, and worked out in prayer through good days and through the painful days of having degenerative arthritis. Ruth prayed a prodigal son right back into the arms of Jesus. She endured 4 hip replacement surgeries and persevered with a smile during her final week of life on earth. Her personal journals are a treasure not only to her kids and grandkids, but they are available to all.

Ruth wrote poetry as she considered the many benefits of being the adopted child of the King of kings. Faith gives everyone the courage needed to walk through the valleys without fear. Her children remember their momma holding a rattlesnake, riding a motorcycle, having fun while daring to hang glide. Our Father called us all to share His faithful love message with others. Christians will face hardships, that is a promise of God – but how we face them will bring God His due honor, or not.

Proverbs 4:20-22 “My child, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to My words. Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; for they are life to those who find them and health to one’s whole body.” ❤️ This is the Scripture that caused Derek Prince to trust in Jesus at his Word. Derek’s skin disease was called incurable by experts. After a year in the hospital, he clung to this proverb and believed it was for his whole body. Derek walked out of the hospital, completely healed! Thank You Jesus for the Word, for reconciling us to God and healing us by Your living Word.

Like Ruth and others it is a good practice to record the miracles of God in your life. Keep a FAITH building journal for when the hard times arrive. My Lord brought me back to life when I flatlined on an operating table. I walked out of the hospital, not paralyzed or brain damaged after an aneurysm. The Comforter carried me through the premature death of my son. The Counselor led me to move to Mexico to witness to the poor. The Advocate defended me when falsely charged during my son’s divorce. The Protector returned me safely after being abducted and raped. The Strengthener gave me His strength after a heart attack. The Holy Spirit is “the Breath of the Almighty” Job 33:4 The prophet Isaiah said “the Spirit of the Lord will rest on him— the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the Lord.” Isaiah 11:2 NIV – Hallelujah! “How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!” Hebrews 9:14 NIV – Recently a Nephrologist reported that my renal kidney function was only at 58%. The doctor warned me that high blood pressure stresses the kidneys. On July 28, 2022 after my quiet time in the Presence of God, I recorded my BP at 124/85 and rejoiced for what the Lord is doing in my body. At age 71 with 47 years of faith building challenges, the many recorded miracles cause me to rise up and praise God for His faithfulness. Within 60 days the medically impossible occured! My renal was restored by faith in the blood of Jesus. The Nephrologist was astounded as he reported a 73% function is a miracle. My light affliction drew me closer to God and produced a delight of glory in my unseen, but certain Great Physician. “Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.” 2 Corinthians 4:16-17 NIV

Walking in the Spirit, knowing I am never alone –because the Holy Spirit is the He who abides in me, Who is greater than he who prowls around the earth seeking to destroy my faith in God. Regardless of the seen, the heard, or the report, I choose to claim my Father’s Promises. God’s living and active Word affirms “calling for things that are not yet manifest”. Let us keep the gift of FAITH focused on He whose tender mercies are ABOVE all His works. Claiming that my heart and kidneys work perfectly is to fill my HOPE with FAITH in His plans to prosper me. Placing all my trust in His word, His Spirit works His tender mercies as my body is healed by His stripes.

Our faith gives substance to our hope in Jesus, the Great Physician. The living Word of God says “by His stripes, you are healed”. It does not say you are going to be healed, it says present tense, you are healed. Jesus said ” Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole.” Mark 5:25-28 ❤️ Psalm 145:9 In obedience keep calling yourself healthy, as your already are. I thank God for Ruth Graham Bell and her testimony! Consider it all JOY as you think that one day you will meet Jesus face to face, and other saints gone ahead. Enjoy’s Ruth’s legacy of faith as remembered by her children.

  1. In John 16:7 NIV Jesus gave the Holy Spirit the Greek translated name of “Helper”. The Amplified Bible Bible adds depth to the Holy Spirit. “I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby) will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him (the Holy Spirit) to you [to be in close fellowship with you].” Thank You Jesus for sending the Holy Spirit, Who is One just like You, that we are never alone. We are never without His help, counsel, comfort, wisdom, strength, and His intercessory prayers. The Holy Spirit is indeed “Jesus in me.” A great new book by Anne Graham Lotz.
