Enoch’s lineage is detailed in the genealogies found in the Book of Genesis. Enoch is part of the lineage of Adam, the first human man created by God. Genesis 1:26-27. Seth was Adam’s son, born after Abel was murdered by Cain. Genesis 4:25. Summary:  #1 Adam  #2 Seth  #3 Enosh #4 Kenan #5 Mahalalel #6 Jared  #7 Enoch. Enoch is the father of Methuselah, and Methuselah is the grandfather of Noah. Enoch lived 365 years. 1 Enoch 49  “Then they shall rejoice with joy and be glad, and to the Holy place shall they enter; and its fragrance shall be in their bones, and they shall live a long life on earth, such as thy fathers lived. And in their days shall no sorrow or plague or torment or calamity touch them. For wisdom is poured out like water, and glory faileth not before Him for evermore. For He is mighty in all the secrets of righteousness, and unrighteousness shall dissappear as a shadow, and have no continuance. In Him dwells the spirit of wisdom, and the spirit which gives insight, and the Spirit of understanding.” Today the Holy Spirit is our Teacher, Guide, Counselor, the One who abides in us, and gives us wisdom, revelation and testifies with our spirit that we are a child of God.

The writings of Enoch do not contradict the Bible, but his written words illuminate the reader. Enoch  answers questions like; “Where do people go when they die?” and “What do angels do?” Enoch was a man who lived and never died because God reached into mankind and took him. Enoch is noted for his faithful and intimate relationship with God. He is first mentioned in the old testament in Genesis 5:18-24. He is the son of Jared and the father of Methuselah. Enoch “walked with God” and the fact that he wrote about his visions before God took him, we have access to his words. In the new testament in Hebrews 11:15, the scripture reveals that Enoch was faithful and did not experience death. Jude 1:14, a brother of Jesus read the writings of Enoch and calls Enoch a prophet who warns of the coming judgment.  The Book of Enoch expands our knowledge of exactly who God is. His written words take us through the seven heavens.

Psalm 148:4 “Praise Him, you highest heavens and you waters above the skies.” Enoch was taken through each spiritual realm that leads to the throne of God. The first heaven is a vast cosmic watery realm just above the sky. This physical reality is where God has His assigned angels who orchestrate the weather. All storms, the lightning, thunder, rain, hail, snow, and wind occur according to God’s will. Nothing is random. God asked his man Job 36 “Have you entered the storehouse of snow?”

Enoch passed through the terrible dark place where the fallen angels are in chains waiting for God’s judgment. In this realm is where spiritual warfare takes place 24/7. The grief and despair of these once all powerful angels cried out to Enoch to pray for them. They no longer have access to the throne room, but by the grace of God, we still do. Jude 1:6 “And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their proper dwelling—these He has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day.” Disobedience has a price. Ezekiel 28:17 “Your heart became proud on account of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor.
So I threw you to the earth; I made a spectacle of you before kings.”

Enoch describes the 3rd realm as the paradise where all the dead arrive. The righteous land on the side of paradise which is a lush, magnificent garden. A beauty that is beyond words, filled with the sweet fragrance of the Lord’s presence. It is the very paradise where Jesus promised to meet the thief on the cross. The 3rd heaven is where both sinner and saint wait for judgment. There is a great chasm in the midst that separates  paradise from hades. Luke 16:22-23 “The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried. In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side.  The rich man called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire. But Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. And besides all this, between us and you a great CHASM has been SET in PLACE, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.” Before death, today is the day to get right with God.

This unseen, unheard realm is filled with unceasing Angelic worship and celestial glory. Enoch visited the 1st heaven where weather is managed. He had wept in the darkness of the 2nd and saw the chasm in paradise that separates the torments and peace in the 3rd. Now, Enoch crossed into the 4th where worship shifts the celestial atmosphere.  Enoch saw what is actually happening in this invisible realm.  He documents this realm as the space where the sun makes its daily journey and where the moon completes its course. It is where the stars move in their ordained paths with a mathematical precision that no human astronomer can fathom. Humans view what God had already spoke into existence before the foundation of the world. The 4th heaven is where the sun and the moon are not just astronomical bodies moving through empty space on autopilot. The sun and moon are escorted and attended by specific angels who are assigned to accompany the sun on its daily journey across the heavens, singing as they go, worshipping as they go, filling the 4th heaven with a sound of unbroken, glorious, and sustained praise since the moment God first spoke light into existence. Right now, as you are reading this, the 4th heaven is alive with worship. While you sleep, worship is happening. While  distracted, discouraged, or wondering whether God was still present, the 4th heaven is thundering with the sound of beings who have never stopped declaring God’s glory.  Enoch stood inside their worship as he felt it stream through his soul. The God who governs the 4th heaven has never once experienced a moment of silence and His praise is not dependent on our feelings or our bored attitude. His worthiness is not contingent on our high or low season of joy or faith. The 4th heaven still sings.

The silent grief of faithful watchers highlights the catastrophic cost of any abandoned assignment. The 5th heaven is a place where guardian angels remain heavy, and grief-laden, suffocating silence over the watchers who fell. They were celestial beings of enormous power, tremendous authority, and breathtaking glory. God assigned them to watch over the earth and intercede before God on behalf of humanity. They were guardians that stood between heaven and earth as living bridges of divine care and attention. In the act of rebellion recorded in Genesis 6, a great company of God’s assigned watchers chose to abandon their post. They descended to earth to corrupt God’s order, and to interbreed with humanity. This unleashed a wave of spiritual contamination so severe that it ultimately brought the flood of Noah. The remaining guardian watchers stayed faithful to their assignment, and they stand in the 5th heaven in total silence, grieving, and mourning. Their brothers are imprisoned in the darkness of the 2nd heaven. The magnitude of  pride caused by the fallen watchers turned the 5th heaven into a realm of unending sorrow.  The deep grief of the faithful watchers is because they see the cost, the irrevocable, the devastating consequence of walking away from God’s assignment. The damage of their spiritual betrayal unleashed pain on all future generations. LESSON: Our love of God generates a faithfulness that matters eternally. Our obedience carries more weight than we can measure. Our decision to stay, to keep walking with God when we want to give up is not a small thing. Enoch goes into great detail about the watchers, and then he escalates into the 6th realm where each thought of humanity is recorded.  The next realm has angels who know ancient things, and personal things about us all.  Nothing is unknown or hidden. His loving Way has its say in the library of heaven.

Angels act as God’s assigned scribes to record every human thought, prayer, and deed.  The significance of our obedience to capture every thought before we speak becomes hightened as we enter the 6th heaven as Enoch experienced and recorded. The books are kept and opened just as Daniel prophesied in chapter 7. Every prayer humanity has ever whispered, every moment of faith, hope, loss, love, kindness, pain, doubt, fear, and failure, have been diligently recorded. With absolute precision since the day we are born, a book is devoted to each of us. The 6th unseen realm is not to  condemn anyone. It is not a realm of judgment, critique, or grief like the heavens below it. What Enoch records humbles the souls that desire to know God. The book of Enoch awakens  and fills us with a holy reverent fear of God. The 6th heaven, according to Enoch’s account, is populated by angels of a completely different order. Enoch describes specific angels assigned to all human beings. Our keen awareness that they record our deeds, decisions, each tiny act of kindness, every sacrifice made in secret, every criticism, every doubt, all pride, and each prayer we murmur, this knowledge should humble our hearts into careful attention to the Holy Spirit’s nudge. This is not mythology as the Bible validates in Revelation 20:12. “The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books.” NOTE: The books in heaven’s library are plural. This fact does indicate a library full of books with authentic records that are maintained by angels who have been faithfully executing their assignment across the full span of human history. Malachi 3:16 “A scroll of remembrance being written before God for those who feared Him and honored His name.” The 6th realm of heaven is where our books are kept in God’s library. The angel assigned to you has been fascinated by your life.  This should not frighten you, but  wake you up to be diligent about what you think, say, and do. God’s grace is not a license for passivity.  We are saved by faith and not by works, but what we do with our days does matter. Our Salvation is the free gift of God through Jesus Christ. Awareness of the 6th heaven declares that a life redeemed by grace is a life that produces fruit. A new life given and that leaves a record worth reading. When the books are opened, it is revealed that we were not ashamed of trusting in Jesus. Ephesians 2:10 “We are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Our Father gave us individual assignments and personalities so that as the Body of Christ we could, together reach as many as possible. 

Enoch encountered personal angels in the 6th heaven. He described beings who intercede and carry our prayers before the throne of God. Our assigned angels are involved in the spiritual dialogue between the Creator and us. Revelation 8:3 “An angel with a golden censer stood at the altar before the throne, and he was given much incense to offer with the prayers of all God’s people.” Our prayers do not disappear into empty air, they are carried and presented at the alter in the court of heaven. Our prayers are personally transported by celestial beings of ancient and devoted purpose.

Through the writings of Enoch we enjoy a divine journey through all the heavens to arrive in God’s All-Knowing Presence at His throne. Our Father hears every single word, not one prayer has ever been lost, not one cry has gone unregistered, not one moment of desperate, faith-filled reaching toward heaven has fallen short of its destination. The 6th heaven is God’s way of saying, “I see you, I have always seen you. Your name is not unknown in the courts of heaven.”  We are fully known, and the apple of His eye. What is beyond all human comprehension is that one day we will all stand naked before Jesus. We are almost there as we listen for the final trumpet blast.  We have walked through the cosmic waters of the 1st heaven, where angels govern the wind and the rain and the turning of seasons with perfect, unbroken obedience. We stood in the darkness of the 2nd heaven, where fallen angels are imprisoned in chains, conscious and grieving, waiting for a judgment they cannot escape. In this realm we rejoice knowing that all spiritual battles end in victory as demons and angels are locked in chains of regret. We crossed the threshold of the 3rd heaven, and found paradise and torment existing side by side, separated only by the choices made in a single lifetime on earth. We were overwhelmed by the celestial worship of the 4th heaven, where angels have never stopped singing. We felt the crushing silence of the 5th heaven, where faithful watchers mourn the brothers they lost to rebellion. And we stood in the 6th heaven, where angels of ancient wisdom record every deed, carry every prayer, and speak your name in the courts of heaven. Six extraordinary realms of spiritual reality that most believers will never hear about from a pulpit.

Enoch’s vision of the 7th heaven affirms God’s eternal sovereignty and the steadfastness of His Word. Enoch , the man who had walked faithfully with God for 300 years, stopped at the threshold of the 7th heaven. Previously Enoch had been able to look, walk, observe, and process what he was seeing. In the 7th heaven he describes a light so intense, that it was not simply something you saw, the Light of the world passed through you and exposed every corner of your being. Not to condemn, but to reveal, to illuminate, to make absolutely plain the difference between what is created and what is eternal. The book of Enoch describes the angels as the highest order of created beings the archangels, the cherubim, the seraphim, the ophanim as beings  of such glory and devotion that their entire existence is consumed by one singular unending act of worship before the throne of God. After his eyes adjusted to a light that made every previous light look like a shadow, Enoch saw the throne and seated on the throne was not a theological concept or an impersonal governing principle, Enoch saw the living God, the Ancient of Days, the God  who always was and always is and always will be.  The King of kings,  whose name is above every name, Jesus. “The Ancient of Days took His seat. His clothing was as white as snow.” Daniel 7:9

Enoch, a man made of dust and breath and the same fragile biology that you carry right now, he stood in the presence of the living God and was not consumed. Not because he was perfect, not because he had earned it, but because God, in His sovereign grace, had chosen to bring Enoch there to show him these things.  To leave a record for every generation, a record that says the God you serve is not small, the God you serve is not manageable, the God you serve is not a theological idea you can contain in a Sunday morning sermon or a 30-second prayer before dinner. He is the Ancient of Days, He is the King who sits on the throne. He is the Lion of Judah, the Lamb who was slain, the only one worthy to open the seals. Revelation  Jesus was, and is Lord before you were born. He will be Lord long after this world has passed away. There is no corner of the  earth beneath your feet, not in the sky above your head, not in any of the 7 heavens that stretch from here to the throne, where His sovereignty does not reach, where His wisdom does not extend, where His love does not pursue. Everything Enoch saw across the 7 realms of heaven is relevant. We live in a world that is doing everything in its power to make us doubt or question whether God is real or if scripture is reliable.  If faith is anything more than a psychological comfort for people who cannot face the hard edges of reality. Every culture is screaming loud and the mass confusion is overwhelming. The voices competing for our attention and our belief are multiplying faster than any of ai system can track. In the middle of all of the noise, the recorded experience of Enoch stand like an immovable mountain and declare, the throne is still occupied. The Ancient of Days has not stepped down. The Seraphim have not stopped singing. The angels of the 6th heaven are still recording. The prisoners of the 2nd heaven are still waiting for a judgment. The Paradise in the 3rd heaven is still receiving the dead. The cosmic order of the 1 st heaven is still operating with perfect precision. Nothing has changed in the heavenly realm because of what is happening in the earthly one. God is not reactive and He is not scrambling. He is not revising His plan because of the headlines we read. This is why the word of God must remain our anchor. Not tradition, not culture, not the shifting opinions of theologians or the trending theologies of social media. The living, breathing, eternal Word of God that has outlasted every empire, every persecution, every intellectual assault, every cultural revolution that has ever attempted to silence it. Jesus said in Matthew 24:35, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away.” Stand on that truth and build your life on that. When the world  is shaking and it will tremble, the only foundation that does not move is the Word of God who sits on the throne in the 7th heaven.
