After a few days in LaPaz – fly into Loreto, a Pueblo Magico. The abundant sunshine bakes atop the desert terrain while the Sea elevates the humidity. With a moderate temp of 76 °F from Nov thru March, we have visited this colorful city on five separate occasions. Easter and Christmas have always been fun because of all the local events. According to the National Meteorological Service, Loreto’s highest temp recorded was on July 2, 2006 at 112 °F. Loreto’s lowest temp recorded was recorded on Dec 15, 1987 at 32 °F. Loreto was the first Spanish colonial settlement of the Viceroy of New Spain on the Baja coast. The town was founded in 1697 by a Jesuit Order. This missionary order of the Catholic Church was founded by Ignatius of Loyola. The Jesuits discovered a steady spring of fresh water which enabled them to provide for the local indigenous in many ways. The control of the Baja California missions was given to the Franciscans in 1769. The town served as the capital of the province of Las Californias from its founding until the capital of this Mexico province was moved to Monterey. In 1768, this Mexican province was annexed as Alta California and today we know it as Baja California. The city of Loreto is built on flat land and the average elevation is 33 ft above sea level. “La Giganta” is the prominent Mountain Range
which lies to the west. The Sea of Cortez is beautiful and filled with sea life. From Guadalajara there are NO direct flights for now – so to get there from mainland Mexico, fly Volaris direct to LaPaz, stay a couple of nights then fly 15 minutes on Calafia AIrlines to Loreto. It is best to use the phone APP “OPODO” to book Aero Calafia as their website is frustrating. One this trip we will stay 3 nights at the Loreto Bay Golf Resort. ADDRESS: Blvd Mision De Loreto s/n Col. Nopolo Loreto, BCS 23880 Mexico – +52-161-313-3010– This resort is just outside of the city limits of Loreto. ❤ We look forward to exploring this new area. Meetups with my bro may be impossible on this trip as the annual Lighted Boat Parade keeps Captain Benito very busy. Enjoy the Christmas season of genuine thanks to God – no matter where you choose to travel — cuz wherever you are, God is.
We were blessed to recently hook up with Mike’s family for his mom’s 86th birthday in October 2019. Mike and I practiced the Thriller moves for the 2016 Halloween fiesta in Ajijic. We represented the OLDEST dance group globally – it was a blast! Our 2018 San Francisco/Canada cruise. Fun Family Reunions
