Billy Graham

Stored up treasures in heaven. On May 16, 2024 the recognition of Billy’s impact on our nation was honored in Washington D.C.

At the U.S. Capitol today the unveiling of a statue of Billy Graham was held in the National Statuary Hall. Franklin Graham told the guests that his father would have been a little uncomfortable with the statue because he would want the focus to be on the One that he preached about—the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

“Our family is honored that our earthly father will be there in the nation’s Capitol, pointing future generations to our Heavenly Father.”

Engraved in the open Bible in the statue’s right hand is Galatians 6:14: “But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.” John 3:16 and John 14:6 are engraved in the base for everyone who tours to see.

Franklin Graham and his wife Jane and all of their children and their spouses were there, as well as Anne Graham Lotz.  Many family members, and ministry partners, members of Congress, and NC Governor Roy Cooper. The House Speaker Mike Johnson and his staff  hosted the ceremony. NC Senators Senator Ted Budd and Senator Thom Tillis, members of Congress Rep. Virginia Foxx and Patrick McHenry and U.S. Senate Chaplain Dr Barry C Black gave a moving invocation. Billy Graham’s long-time executive assistant and now Executive Vice President of the Billy Graham Library gave the benediction. Michael W. Smith for the powerful hymn—“I Surrender All” which should be the prayer on all of our hearts.
