Manzanillo Beach

Joyfully, we drive 4 hours from our casa in Jalisco into the State of Colima, Mexico. The toll road takes us on a fun journey that crosses a landscape that includes a volcanoe, canyons, coconut groves, and signs to the beach ⛱️ La playa 😊

Mountain in San Nicolas

At home, the weather in March is a cool 50 F in the morning, but elevates to the low 80’s. A breeze of the ocean requires a light layer, then peel at about 10 am. Drive through Ajijic and Joco in the morning to slip through very light traffic.

Ajijic Plaza 8 am

Enjoy the view and a great cappuccino at Scandinavia. Set aside all timepieces and enjoy the scenery. Pulling over to capture the beauty of a sunrise over Jocotopec. A lookout spot for a sweet linger of thanksgiving, then onward through farmland. Rows and rows of berries rest in a bowl of hills. Tis my preferred route as it avoids the hectic bumpers in Guad.

Departing mi casa at 8 am, stopping for coffee, and a few roadside, God gasping views, a squeal silently bubbles up as I approach signs boasting Colima. When I lived in California, my joy ride wound past Silverlake, Red and Blue Lake to snow ski or kayak with friends. All landscapes flourish in the sun, and March is our dry season in Mexico. The Jacaranda are blooming and many folks are sneezing.

The Cuota toll road is kept up extremely well. The cost of a total of 500 pesos gets one safely to the beach. The 4 lane highway to the beach elevates us up over the peak of the Colima Volcano. Signs warn of Bobcat crossings and we sail with birds flying across several suspension bridges. Tracking steady among many trucks, passing through villages, Colima, Mexico is 80 km ahead. Then, 100 km from the city of Colima to Las Brisas Beach.

Go ahead and pronounce this farming town. It sits in between Jocotopec and the tiny village of La Molina just before the Cuota. So much to see and appreciate. Savor all that God created just for our passing through pleasure. Once the first toll is paid, the drive accelerates  through a vast valley of sandy dunes. Twisters of big winds blow at times on this wide open stretch. Mike is so excited to share this road trip with his God daughter Heather who resides in a geographic spot with much cooler temps.

Very light traffic on Sundays

Savor every part, and it will become a memory that stirs the heart to fascinate about how long it took to engineer a path through mountains, across great chasms, over waterways, and land at a giant port for ships from around the globe.

Road warriors beware of racing to get ahead. God has issued us lots of grace, so we gladly pass it on around the curves outside Colima. Much construction 🚧 slows us all down. Cones slice the 4 lanes down to 2 carills.  Reduce your velocity, as the sign warns and be safe. Skip the first Manzanillo exit to Centro. The road is rough as it passes by the expanding port. EXIT: Hoteleria Zona and drive straight to a giant cinema, Burger King, and Super Soriana. Turn left and follow signs to Las Brisas. A new Dairy Queen greets you for a welcome pause. The Best Western Hotel Luna.

Two doors away from Apt.

Location, location, location! The meetup spot will be most enjoyable for Mike! The local DQ opens at 11 am. The beach is right behind it, so we rise, shine with great joy, and stroll the beach while singing a new song. The La Marina mall is directly across from Home Depot. Shop air conditioned.

Hotel Luna Del Mar

Michael and I have stayed at this hotel several times. The best price at $59 USD on Hotels dot calm. It is right on the beach. We travel to Santiago Beach Club on the opposite shore line to ocean bathe. The beaches in Las Brisas are not safe for swimming. Giant waves nearest the port.
