Smith Wigglesworth was born on June 8, 1859 in Yorkshire, England. He lived until he was 87 years old. On March 7, 1947 Wigglesworth went home to heaven.  His family was poor and as a small boy he worked alongside his mother in the fields. Smith also worked in factories to help provide for his family. His parents regularly took their son to attend services at the Methodist and the Anglican churches in the neighborhood. Smith accepted Jesus as his Lord at the age of 8. His grandmother was a devout Methodist.

Smith was confirmed by a Bishop in the Church of England, baptized by immersion in the Baptist Church and had the grounding in Bible teaching in the Plymouth Brethren while learning to be a plumber.  At the age of 23 Smith married Polly Featherstone on May 2, 1882.  Polly was a preacher with the Salvation Army and she had drawn attention to General William Booth. They had one daughter, Alice, and four sons, Seth, Harold, Ernest and George. Polly died in 1913.  His grandson, Leslie Wigglesworth, after more than 20 years as a missionary in the Congo, served as the president of the Elim Pentecostal Church. Wigglesworth learned to read after he married Polly; she taught him to read the Bible. He often stated that it was the only book he ever read, and did not permit newspapers in his home, preferring the Bible to be their only reading material. In 1907, at the age of 48, Wigglesworth visited Alexander Boddy during the Sunderland Revival. After Mary Boddy laid hands on Smith, he experienced speaking in tongues. Smith spoke at a few Assemblies of God events in Great Britain. ““I want you to see that he that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself or builds himself up. We must be edified before we can edify the church. I cannot estimate what I, personally, owe to the Holy Ghost method of spiritual edification. I am here before you as one of the biggest conundrums in the world. There never was a weaker man on the platform. Language? None. Inability–full of it. All natural things in my life point exactly opposite to my being able to stand on the platform and preach the gospel. The secret is that the Holy Ghost came and brought this wonderful edification of the Spirit. I had been reading this Word continually as well as I could, but the Holy Ghost came and took hold of it, for the Holy Ghost is the breath of it, and He illuminated it to me. I remember when I got the gift of the Holy Ghost, and I also remember with thanksgiving when the Holy Ghost got me.” Smith Wigglesworth

The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me. When the Holy Spirit is upon you, it is wise to submit, to surrender to the mighty power of God and allow Him to possess you!  This is entirely possible as we consciously yield to Him moment-to-moment.  We obediently deny ourselves, our wants, our ways by crucifying our selfish motives to serve God.  As we become passionately possessed with an obsession to obey 😀 we can then proclaim that we are walking in the Spirit. As we stride along following where the Spirit leads, we are able to do much more than we could have ever imagined. As we listen, the Holy Spirit will nudge us to go there, to speak thus, to pray for… When we discover how precious it is to live in obedience, His way becomes our delight. Many Christians think that they are obedient because they do not disobey the rules — Even while they carefully follow the dos and don’ts, unless they are  submitted and possessed by the Spirit, they miss out on being a conduit for miracles. We must realize that the Spirit is ever waiting to guide us, to speak to us, to draw us away from the distractions and darkness of our surroundings. His desire is to bring us into fellowship with Him to the point of glad obedience.  When you live “clothed with” the Spirit of God and are controlled by Him, you are not controlled by circumstances or a spirit of unbelief or doubt in others. (2 Corinthians 5:2) As we keenly observe and keep our ears tuned to the Spirit of God, we are able to sense the unbelief in those within a confounding circumstance. Walking in full submission to the Holy Spirit, we trust Him in all circumstances. Our Father will faithfully direct us in each individual situation. Living a life of vulnerability we risk looking foolish in this world as we follow Jesus into what is impossible without God. Questions: Are you to pray once and then stand in faith? Should you share a Word of God first to build faith until assurance comes and then pray? Whatever is needed for each unique circumstance will be revealed to you by the guidance of the Holy Spirit. As His anointed, we are led to pray THROUGH until the Spirit gives us assurance. A miracle healing occurs, or His peace about the divine timing needed for His greater purpose is revealed. In any case, we stood firm, we obeyed, we spoke in authority as we trust God at His Word.  Galatians 2:20 “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” Our mind is part of our soul, and so is our selfish, sinful nature. Hebrews 4:12  The Word of God is living and active, sharper than a double edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and Spirit…it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” The activity of the soul/mind, our affections, our preferences are carved away by the sword from the pure Spirit of God in us. Surrendered to the pure Holy Spirit, is to be cut off from our thoughts. We live immersed, enmeshed and One with the Spirit in us.  Thank You Lord Jesus for anointing me, thank You for my salvation, thank You for the Holy Spirit who counsels, convicts, corrects, approves and directs me. Thank You Father for choosing me as Your Ambassador. Thank You Lord for equipping me with Thy mighty power to do Thy will on earth as it is in heaven. Thank You for fueling me with authority and covering me with Your righteousness. Thank You for the major blessing of knowing You personally. Thank You for leading me to places to speak a Word of knowledge. Thank You for the continued stream of mercy and grace that I may dwell in Thy holy Presence. God has no place for a person who is stationary. The person who is going to catch the fire, hold for the truth, always be on the watchtower, is the person who is going to be a beacon for all saints, having a light greater than a persons natural countenance. We must see that God’s grace and God’s life and His Spirit are mightier than man a million times. When you are baptized in the Holy Spirit, you are on an extraordinary plane. You are brought into line with the mind of God. If you want the quickening that moves your body until you know you are renewed, it is in the Holy Spirit. And while I say so much about the Holy Spirit today, I withdraw everything that does not put our Lord Jesus Christ in the place He belongs, for when I speak about the Spirit, it is always with reference to the revelation of Jesus. The Holy Spirit is simply the Revealer of the mighty Christ who has all for us, who never left us. Greater is He who is in us, than he who is in the world. He reveals mysteries that we may never know any weakness, but all limitations are gone. Glory to God! The Holy Spirit never comes until there is a place ready for Him. The Holy Spirit can only come into our bodies, His temples, when they are fully yielded to Him. “
